We can't stress enough what an important ministry this is, especially in today’s economy. The cereal is put into gift baskets at the holidays for OPEN M clients. The cereal can be put in the basket on top of the coat rack in the main hallway labeled OPEN M.

We also have the on-going commitment to collect pudding and/or Jello all year for OPEN M; again, place them in the basket on top of the coat rack in the main hallway labeled OPEN M.

The Giving Doll
The Giving Doll

The Giving Doll, Inc. is a non profit community volunteer program that constructs and distributes cloth handmade dolls to children at times of special needs. Because we do not sell our dolls, we rely totally on donations. That is why we are so appreciative of [Faith Lutheran Church's] donation. Thank you very much for caring enough to reach out and help us. Thanks for being part of our mission: To GIVE faith, love, hope, joy and comfort to children at a time of special need. You have helped make the lives of these special children just a little brighter.

ELCA
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God's grace in our lives. We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways. Addressing AIDS in Uganda. Rebuilding homes destroyed by hurricanes on the Gulf Coast or a tsunami in Indonesia. Supporting schools in the Holy Land. Supporting new congregations in Malawi, etc. The ELCA, through its missionaries, companion churches, and partner agencies, works every day to proclaim the love of God and make the world a better place to live.

Faith Lutheran Church belongs to the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the ELCA and supports a number of their ministries.  Please take time to read about the Northeastern Ohio Synod Assembly that took place this past May (found in the July 2010 Faith Newsletter) to gain a better understanding of the worldwide outreach of the ELCA as reported by Faith's representatives DuWayne and Dottie Hansen who attended that conference.

For the 2010-2011 school year our FaithKids offering went towards the ELCA Good Gifts program called God's Global Barnyard.  We collected over $1500 to purchase one cow (worth $500), two goats, two pigs, two sheep, two fish farms, and dozens of chicks to support sustainable living for those in need around the world.

Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is a well-respected organization that works in 35 countries in the areas of disaster response (like the recent floods in Pakistan), teaching self-sustainability and seeking lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. One of the recent focuses is the Malaria Initiative, which is a partnership with LWR, the ELCA, the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and the Gates Foundation to eradicate malaria, which is a preventable and treatable disease. Part of our 2010 "More Than Enough" Giving Project funds went towards this initiative to help people around the world through LWR.

For the 2010-2011 school year the 5th & 6th grade FaithKids Sunday School class sewed 9 quilts and assembled 37 health kits to go to Lutheran World Relief to help refugee families in need.

WELCA also supports Lutheran World relief every year by packing school kits for children in need around the world. Beginning in July boxes will be available in the narthex for collecting items such as Notebooks 8” x 10" wide ruled, Blunt scissors, Rulers 30 centimeters, Pencil sharpeners, 6 new unsharpened pencils with erasers, Individual Erasers 2 1/2”, Box of 16 or 24 crayons etc.  These items will be packed in a sturdy bag for shipment to LWR in Baltimore, MD. The congregation's participation is greatly valued and considered critical in providing children with necessities for continuing their education.
